Four-part oral history recorded by University of Texas professors Albert Chammah and Oran Young in 1976, recounting their trip to Syria to investigate the economic, social, and political conditions of Jewish communities in the country. This collection was donated to the HRDI by Maurice Chammah and is accessible online.
The Free Burma Rangers collection contains twelve videos that document relief efforts, the daily life and testimonies of internally displaced people, relief team training, individual FBR relief workers, and the history of Burma. The documentary videos were produced by the Free Burma Rangers. Please note that certain videos in the Free Burma Rangers collection contain graphic imagery.
Bought & Sold: An Investigative Documentary About the International Trade in Women, filmed between 1995-1997, investigates the illegal trafficking of women out of Russia and into Asia, Europe, and the United States through interviews with trafficked women, traffickers, law enforcement officials, social workers, and mafia members in Russia, Eastern Europe, and Japan.
This collection contains video footage shot by WITNESS partner Jesús Tecú Osorio, an activist and survivor of the March 13, 1982 massacre of 177 Mayan-Achi women and children in Río Negro, Rabinal by the Guatemalan army. This collection includes recorded interviews and footage from the Rabinal area of exhumations, memorial ceremonies and reburials, political actions against amnesty for those responsible for the killings, and gatherings of former civil patrollers.
Radio Venceremos was a clandestine radio station that broadcast from the mountains of Morazán, El Salvador during the Salvadoran Civil War (1981-1992). The recordings contain valuable historic, anthropologic and ethnographic information, particularly in regards to human rights violations during an era of social transformation in Central America.
The 2012 Rethinking Power and Resistance conference brought together academics and activists from throughout the Americas, foregrounding themes of arts as advocacy, pedagogies of alliance, and resisting criminalization. It highlighted three community-university collaborations with the Transgender Jail Project, Conspire Theatre, and the Polochic Evictions Counteraction. The collection consists of recordings of conference panels and workshops.
Tejiendo la Memoria ("Weaving Memory") was a weekly radio program produced by MUPI. Each program is between five and seven minutes and relates an aspect of the social, cultural, or political history of El Salvador. The program was broadcast by the Association of Participatory Radio and Programs of El Salvador (ARPAS).
The Ella Baker Center for Human Rights documentary footage collection consists of seventeen videos of raw footage documenting political protests, rallies, interviews, and community events that draw attention to police brutality, youth, and the U.S. prison industry. The organization used the footage to create the documentaries "Books Not Bars" (2001) and "System Failure: Violence, Abuse and Neglect in the California Youth Authority" (2004).
The Voces de Mujeres collection is made up of audio and video recordings which feature conversations, music, interviews, recounts of events, and segments focusing on the history of women's rights, contemporary gender, class and race issues, the armed conflict and the subsequent peace accords in Guatemala.
The Women's Caucus for Gender Justice, in association with WITNESS, produced If Hope Were Enough for the purposes of education, advocacy, and capacity building as part of the organization's outreach efforts to promote the International Criminal Court. Through interviews with survivors of gender-based violence in Korea, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Rwanda, Afghanistan and Mexico, If Hope Were Enough documents the ways in which women have worked to seek accountability for crimes of sexual and gender violence in conflict and non-conflict situations around the world.
